Endocrine disruptors are substances (or mixtures of substances) that interfere with the functioning of our endocrine system—which is responsible for producing our hormones—and have harmful effects on our health.

Understanding Endocrine Disruptors

Endocrine disruptors are substances (or mixtures of substances) that interfere with the functioning of our endocrine system—which is responsible for producing our hormones—and have harmful effects on our health.

The harmful effects of endocrine disruptors can then be passed on to our children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren,
and beyond…

We are all exposed

Our daily lives expose us all to endocrine disruptors. However, we are particularly sensitive to
their effects during periods of hormonal change in our lives. These are referred to as periods of vulnerability: during the first 1,000 days of life (from the early days of pregnancy to the child’s third birthday), throughout childhood, and during adolescence
in particular.

Limiting exposure to Endocrine Disruptors

Recognizing Endocrine Disruptors

They are found in many everyday items: processed foods, kitchen utensils, various plastics,
furniture, household products, and certain cosmetics.

Cosmetics: Choose products that have been tested for endocrine disruptors, contain a limited number of ingredients, and are free of essential oils.

Textiles: Opt for natural fibers: cotton, linen, wool, silk, or secondhand items. Always wash them once before wearing.

Household products: Choose brands that clearly state their commitments or carry eco-labels. Select
formulas without essential oils. Limit use to what is strictly necessary.

Cookware: Choose stainless steel, glass, or cast-iron pans. Do not leave your water bottle in the sun; opt for tap water.

Sanitary products: Choose plastic-free options made from natural materials and free of fragrance. Use washable wipes; do not
leave a full diaper on for too long.

Food: Fruits and vegetables: Choose organic options and peel them thoroughly. Pre-packaged meals: Transfer them to a non-
plastic container before reheating.
